Influence: Ability to impact someone's decisions, actions

Persuasion: The art of convincing others to adopt a particular viewpoint


1. One issue: Identifying the core problem or issue
2. points of view (at least). Acknowledging and considering different perspectives is vital for effective persuasion. Help to understand interests, concerns of the other party involved
3. angles: Heart (Understanding audience's emotions is crucial). Minds (The sense of logic play an important role). Bottom Line (Considering practical implications is important)

It's all about Respect

Sexual Harassment
- Unwelcome remarks or actions about sex (from men or women to men or women)
- Not always to co-workers (can be to contractors, customers, etc.)
- The punishment must fit the offense ; several levels of harassment
Level 1: Verbal, visual, not generally targeted at a specific individual
Level 2: Unwelcome touching, damaging co-workers’ property because of their gender, remarks directed at an individual
Level 3: Touching someone in a private area, exposing a private part
Supervisors should never -- ever proposition or date a subordinate
Anyone who witnesses harassment should report it.

5 levels of listening

Hearing: The lowest level of listening is sometimes called ignoring - you register the sound of the other person's voice, but not much else.

Pretend listening:
Your mind and attention are elsewhere, or you have that “I'd rather be somewhere else” look in your eyes.
Listening to interrupt: You are waiting for the speaker to pause so that you can get your chance to speak. You pay attention to the speaker as long as they talk about things you like or agree with.
Active listening: You are now listening and asking relevant questions to help you seek clarity about what is being said.

o shows you are not afraid of public; you have guts, and you do not panic

• Forgot your needs, and think to the needs of your viewers

Wilderness Survival Training from the CIA Archives vs Working in a Company

In August 2000, the CIA declassified a course/book titled 'Introduction to Survival'. I haven't read it

But I read a little summary (<5 min to read) which is very interesting. Above all, I was very surprised to see that most of the Wildness recommendations can be (in a different way) applied in our companies, jobs, projects, etc.

The few points mentioned in the short article (2nd link) are:

- Be Patient
- Be Observant
- Don’t be a Jerk
- Practice Your Skills
- Take Care of Your Gear
- Stay Clean
- Stay Calm

So, read before to go in vacation in the middle of nowhere... and try to transpose in our daily work.
